POC — Point of Control

The price level with the maximum traded volume is the longest line in the profile. The market has "accepted" this price: near POC the price slows down, and after leaving the level works like a magnet.

Value Area (VAH/VAL)

The range where 70% of the total volume has passed. The upper limit is VAH, lower - VAL. Inside Value Area the market is "fair", going beyond the boundaries is a bid for a new trend or a false break.

Up/Down volume

Each line is divided by the volume of rising and falling bars. An excess of buying at the support level confirms demand; an excess of selling at the resistance level indicates selling pressure.

What's happened Volume Profile and how does it differ from the usual volume?

A standard volume histogram answers the question "when was the trade taken": the bars under the candles show the volume of each bar over time. Volume Profile rotates the same information 90 degrees and answers the question "at what prices were traded": the horizontal lines along the price axis show how much volume passed at each price level over the selected period.

This is a fundamentally different perspective. A level where large volumes have been traded is a price where large buyers and sellers have actually met, where positions are opened to protect. Such levels act as support and resistance much more reliably than lines drawn "by eye" through highs and lows.

Mode Visible Range (VPVR) builds a profile based on the bars visible on the screen and is recalculated with each scroll or zoom - a quick way to see the volume structure of any section of history. Fixed Range Links the profile to a manually selected segment - convenient for analyzing a specific movement, consolidation, or trading range.

How to trade Volume Profile

Retest POC

The price has gone from POC and returns to it—a classic trend-following entry point: the level with the highest volume is most often bought out. The stop is beyond the opposite side of the profile line.

Exit from Value Area

Price consolidation above VAH or lower VAL — a request to move to the next volume zone. A false exit with a return inside is a signal in the opposite direction, to POC.

Volumetric voids (LVN)

Thin profile lines represent prices where there's been little trading. The price moves through these zones quickly, encountering no resistance: the void between two large nodes often passes in a single pulse.

Confluence with other data

The strongest levels are where the volume profile node coincides with the limit order density in the order book or the liquidation cluster. Check VPVR With Order Book Heatmap And Liquidation Heatmap.
