Traded Volume — Actual volume of transactions

The actual volume of executed trades on cryptocurrency futures exchanges. Unlike order book volume, traded volume shows the actual transactions that took place—how much money changed hands.

Why track Traded Volume?

Traded volume is the volume of actual executed trades, as opposed to the "stated" volume in the order book, which may contain fake orders. When you see traded volume increase by 50% in an hour, it means real money has entered the market. Major participants have begun to act.

Key pattern: breakout with volume vs. breakout without volume. If the $70,000 resistance is broken with volume 2x the average, it's a genuine breakout, confirmed by the market. If the breakout is on normal volume, it's likely a false breakout, and the price will revert. In April 2024, it broke $67,000 on low volume and immediately retreated to $64,000.

Divergence between volume and price is one of the most reliable early signals. Is the price making new highs, but volume is consistently lower? Buyers are losing their enthusiasm. This is a bearish signal, often preceding a 10-20% correction.

Volume patterns and their meaning

Price increase + Volume increase

A healthy bullish trend. Every new high is confirmed by money. The trend is stable, and entry points can be found on pullbacks.

Price increase + Volume decrease

Bearish divergence. The rally is running out—each new high is on lower volume. Buyers are losing interest. Prepare for a correction.

A sharp surge in volume

The climax is a "volume candle." It often coincides with a reversal: everyone who wanted to buy or sell did so at the same time. After the climax, the market often reverses.

Low volume in the sidewall

The market is on hold. Neither buyers nor sellers are convinced. A breakout from the sideways trend on high volume will provide a strong directional impulse.
